Evolution Gaming Shuts Down Netent Live Studios
The employees of NetEnt AB are facing uncertainty after the prominent iGaming software developer announced plans to cut hundreds of jobs following its recent acquisition. Evolution Gaming has taken over NetEnt and is considering a major organizational restructure.
According to reports from the Times of Malta, the Stockholm-listed company was acquired by its compatriot for a whopping $2.12 billion. One of Evolution’s first decisions was to close NetEnt’s live casino studios in Qormi, putting the jobs of these employees at risk. The process of selecting who will be let go has already begun.
A Short-lived Era
With over 1,000 employees worldwide, NetEnt AB had only recently expanded its live dealer casino portfolio. However, industry experts had predicted this outcome as Evolution Gaming currently operates nine live casinos and blackjack rooms in nearby regions.
Statements from Authorities
The merger between Evolution and NetEnt was approved by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority in September. The Ministry for the Economy, Investments, and Small Businesses is currently discussing options for replacing positions for those affected by the restructuring effort.
In response to this situation, authorities in Malta have set up a helpline encouraging at-risk employees to register on the JobsPlus training and employment platform. The Ministry’s official statement reads, “While acknowledging Evolution Gaming’s commitment to the local economy, the government is working with all parties involved to ensure a smooth transition for those who may lose their jobs due to the restructuring. Additional measures are being taken through the JobsPlus platform to provide personalized recommendations and job-matching services for those affected.”
